Learn Basics Of Networking

Network

A network is two or more devices connected each other with a physical medium or by wireless connections,
these connections allows those two devices to exchange data.
Network enhance many aspects of business such as

  • communications and collaboration
  • sharing informations and resources
Networks are organised based on the geographical location , LAN ( Local Area Network) is group of computers that are featured in a small geographic location such as a building or a small house, they all share a common communication medium like cables or wireless connections and are also connected to a central connecting device like a hub, switch or a router.

A local area network is created when the Host devices such as servers laptops, mobiles or  computers are connected with Central connecting devices such as Hub, Switch or Router

What are Hosts ?

Host can be any device that has an IP address - IP address is used to send and receive data in a network, it also helps us to identify the device and the network where they are located. it acts like the address of the device.

What are central connecting devices ?

Hub, switch and Routers act as central connecting devices.
central connecting devices are responsible for connecting hosts and also for transmitting data.
lests see about these central connecting devices in detail.

  • Hub
The hosts send data to the hub, the hub then broadcast the data to all the connected hosts in the network

Hubs are not used in the networks right now, because if we send a data to a particular host or a computer, every other hosts will receive it, which means we cannot send any data individually

  •  Switches
we are able to correct the problems of the Hub by the device called Switch. unlike Hub switches sends and receive data simultaneously. they also send data directly to a destination

Now switches are the most common device used to connect hosts to a network

  • Router

they are at the edges of LAN, they acts as a gateway to other networks, Router allows communication between hosts on different networks , so we can actually connect two LAN via Router

How do device connect ?

Network adapter also known as Network Interface Card (NICs)
They allow devices to connect to networks, NICs are equipments that make the hosts to communicate each other

NICs communicate via wires or wireless signals

  • The wired adapter feature is RJ45 port , which you can see in the picture on right-side .
  • The wireless adapter feature an antenna and it connects to the network using WAP(Wireless Access Point)

Ethernet Cable

Ethernet Cables are made of copper wires, they transmits data in the form of electrical pulse

Wireless Access Points (WAP)

WAPs provide a central point of access for the hosts such as computers, laptops etc
we can wirelessly transmit data to the wireless access point which are actually connected to switch
and to router
even though we access the network wirelessly that data is still transmitted across a wired network
